Invoking scoffs from people over 16: The Screamo Update

July 23, 2007 - 12:01 pm

Lower Definition–or “The D,” as the local screamo band is known to their loyal minions—just released their new album, Moths, and performed for a sold-out Soma crowd last month. Although it took some time for me to get my hands on the release, the wait was well worth it. The seven-track CD is short but sweet and managed to spend more time in my car than the landfill of Orbit wrappers. Moths surpasses the current level of monotony that continues to plague the screamo genre. The band’s vocals and screams, performed by Matt Geise, are easily distinguishable—which helps them stand out among the wallowing, piercing all-ages throng of screamo bands.

A few other local bands associated with “The D” are doin’ big things as well. This is the Hospital is releasing its debut album Daybreak on July 28 and hardcore band Underminded releases Eleven:Eleven on Uprising Records Aug. 7.

this album is one of the most moving albums i have ever heard. i sat down and deciphired the lyrics, word for word because every single syllable is so MOVING * you can tell that there was a lot of work and effort put into the d’s work. I think that everyone can appreciate good music, no matter what your genre is. maybe the d is classified as screamo but they are so much more. for ally ou hip hop and rap fans, listen to the awesome bass and the drums kick as*! matt’s voice puts me into a trance because the way he carries out the lyrics of a song is unlike anything i have ever heard. the screaming? if youre not a ” screamo ” fan, then just listen to the music when youre really angry. its so much better than punching a wall :)
