So. The Morgan Ensberg deal
So. Padres take great grief all around, including in the clubhouse, for picking up the broken-down Morgan Ensberg from Houston, who pretty much gave him his walking papers and picked up his salary, just to ensure he wouldn’t play there anymore. Ensberg is making good money, and had a great year in 2005, but mashed up his shoulder a year ago. The question, basically, is whether or not he’d be able to reinvent himself in San Diego, after hitting, like, .230ish with eight home runs.
So. Today, day game. Crucial, really, against Arizona. Ensberg’s first start. Dude hits two home runs. In Petco Park, which is essentially a stingy place when it comes to home runs. That’s 25% of the guy’s output in one day. Today, that deal’s looking pretty good. Nice work, Kevin Towers.

Ensberg’s the typical Padres trade deadline pickup–a bubble guy, who’s on the decline way before he really should be. The kinda guy that Towers can say to Moores, “Y’know, I think he just needs a change of scenery. Plus, we can get him comparatively cheap!”
We pick up pumpkins and wait for them to transform back into Cindarella’s chariot. And, hey, sometimes it works.
