Blow my hose

August 13, 2007 - 3:03 pm

The Gay & Lesbian Times is polling readers on whether they think the Hillcrest/Mission Hills firefighters who threatened to sue over being asked to march in the Pride Parade will “continue to serve the community to the best of their abilities.” The online poll started last week. So far, about two-thirds of respondent say “no.”

I might be wrong, but I think the GLT‘s so far the only publication that’s included the firefighters’ account of the comments that so offended them: “‘I want to see your fire hose,’ ‘Blow my hose,’ ‘Put out my fire,’ ‘You’re making me hot,’ ‘I have difficulty breathing, give me mouth to mouth.’”

Stop snickering.

Jesus, you’d think these big bad firemen who risk their lives on a regular basis would be a little bit tougher when taunted verbally. Seems to me they weren’t even taunts, but come-ons (read: flattery) from homosexual men who found them attractive. Sexual harrassment? Give me a break Fire guys. Man up!

Bah. The district I work for has blocked the site. Does GLT have porn in it, or is this just another attack on the GLT folks by an institution.

To be clear, I am referring to the district’s block of the paper.

As for the firemen, there should never be anyone forced to participate in a parade that is not in their honor. I am supportive of both GLT folks’ desire to be accepted and public employees’ rights to not be treated like meat. But to turn this into an anti-firemen bigotry case is irrelevant.

How disgusting that this plays into that monster Hartline’s estimation of the GLT communities. Not only did people misbehave toward the firefighters, but when called on it, they screeched bigotry. To top it off, the local rainbow report has impugned the firefighters’ professionalism.

Maybe the Hillcrest GLT community can make it uglier by demanding affidavits that the firemen will uphold their oaths, despite the abuse they will doubtless be subjected to. Lay off. This is a personnel and supervisory misconduct issue, unless some dork at the elected level stands up and takes the bullet.

    Fat chance.

It is my belief that the misdeeds of the gays towards the firemen is the norm and not the exception. The whole gay pride agenda is sex driven. One only needs to look at the 2007 Pride program to see that. What other “family friendly” event invites porn stars as part of the attraction?
James Hartline is right on the money.
