Following up on CityBeat‘s editorial this week:

Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker struggled to answer two key questions from senators Tuesday. Republican Sen. John Warner asked Petraeus if the present military policy in Iraq is making America safer, which is a claim continually made by President Bush. After hemming and hawing, the general said he didn’t know. And Sen. Russ Feingold asked Crocker which was more important to global security: fighting al Qaeda in safe havens in Iraq or fighting al Qaeda in safe havens in western Pakistan. the ambassador stammered over his answer before finally saying both are important.

The two men struggled because they know the answers are “No” and “Western Pakistan.”
