Brazil by the Hill, now a faceless yuppie fusion joint
Is this what’s happening to Hillcrest? One of the few San Diego neighborhoods to offer a really urban feel—complete with bars, bookstores and restaurants all within walking distance—has lately seemed to be losing its edge.
Most recent case in point: Brazil by the Hill, a Brazilian restaurant with a menu emphasizing meat dishes, reasonable prices, decent food quality, and the offering of a little Latin American variety, is now under new management. The new joint, Seasons 142, opened for its first night of business on Saturday. I didn’t eat there, so I can’t comment on quality, but the American fusion menu had no sense of invention or purpose, and the prices have doubled from the $8 to $13 range to the $17 to $25 range. Feh.
