Hung jury in Coronado trial

September 19, 2007 - 3:47 pm

I just got a call from one of Rod Coronado’s supporters, who told me that Judge Jeffrey Miller has declared a mistrial in the federal case against the environmentalist. If a jury fails to reach a unanimous decision, the judge must declare a mistrial, which he has done. Now it’s up to the U.S. Attorney to decide whether or not to attempt to try Coronado again.

Update: A member of Coronado’s legal team said that a majority of the jury voted not guilty, though he said they weren’t told the breakdown. The U.S. Attorney’s office has until the end of next week to decide whether to re-try the case.

For more on the trial, read this week’s Editor’s Note.
