This Tuesday is a good day to have a beer on the beach

Why? Because on Wednesday the City Council is going to vote on whether or not to ban alcohol from all San Diego beaches. (My money’s on them banning it in light of the PB “riot” that was, IMHO, the fault of police on the scene.)

For what it’s worth, the council is willing to hear from the public:

Public Safety and Neighborhood Services committee meeting
202 C St, 12th floor, Downtown San Diego
2pm on Wednesday, October 10th

Actually, to be specific, since Wednesday is only a committee meeting, you’ve got at least several more weeks for that beer on the beach, D.A. The committee merely passes on a recommendation to the full City Council, which must vote twice on the ordinance. Then it goes to the mayor for a signature or a veto.

I know it won’t kick in immediately. I just meant a symbolic beer before the first ringing of the death knell! The day before the ban actually goes into effect will be a good day for 2 or 3 beers on the beach.

Every day is a good day to have several beers on the beach. That’s why they want to ban it. Because beers and beaches go together so well. They’re like Romeo and Juliet — lovers that must be kept apart.

If this ban does happen stay tuned for the great PB riots of late 2007. If there’s one thing the townsfolk of PB can rally behind, it’s their collegiate right to get a good drunk on. And I say collegiate because that is the lifeblood of this community-college kids, not the yuppie minority who are trying to change PB into La Jolla Jr. If you want to set up camp in a party town, don’t start wining when you have to deal with the occasional drunk kid on the beach. Don’t be fooled, people who move to PB know what they’re getting into. I wouldn’t move into a retirement community and expect them to tolerate me blasting the new 50 Cent disc all night long.
