Aguirre’s letter to smoke shops wasn’t just after meth pipes
After my story appeared describing City Attorney Mike Aguirre’s move toward closing down all of San Diego’s smoke shops, Aguirre began telling reporters that he was really only targeting places that sell implements for consuming crack cocaine and meth, not marijuana. Well, here’s the text of the letter (PFD) he sent to the shops. The letter includes a two page attachment that defines the kind of “drug paraphernalia” they had to stop selling. To wit:
(8) Objects designed for use or marketed for use in ingesting, inhaling, or otherwise introducing marijuana, cocaine, hashish, or hashish oil into the human, such as:
Skimming down to the third item:
(C) Roach clips, meaning objects used to hold burning material, such as a marijuana cigarette , that has become too small or too short to be held in the hand.
and then the tenth:
(J) Bongs.
Maybe Aguirre, a Democrat up for reelection next year, is worried about the pro-medical-marijuana left? Maybe he’s taking some heat for cracking down on the smoke shops and backing down?
With what was included in the original text, why didn’t he just spare the facade and ask them to close entirely? It’s silly anyway, most of the glass pipes sold for use with mar-err, excuse me,”herbal” use can technically be used (albeit clumsily) for the harder drugs he claims to target. People using those two will simply move onto brighter ideas and carefully tap the end of any common light bulb off and they’re good to go.
Does Aquirre believe lack of paraphenelia will lead to a decreased use of illegal drugs? That’s silly and naive. Most dedicated heads don’t piss away perfectly good drug money buying that foo foo sh*t at head shops anyway.
Until we ban lighters, the scourge of marijuana smoking will never end.
Not even lighters will stop us. You can use the sun via a magnifying glass to light just about anything.

I say we all start cheering. The shops underpay the glassblowers, haul in lead-loaded crap from India, then run to the ‘head community when their fast-selling crack pipes get them into trouble. Let Mike have his way! Up with the Pufferware parties!
Thank god beverage companies have lobbyists in congress so they can never ban the old fashion aluminum can. Aluminum is safer than lead too.

Well, thats America and the “War on drugs” for you. Did you know the war on drugs, is actually behind a significant amount of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq? What they only mention at times is that the poppy farmers grow these crops to support themselves, their communities, and their families. America wants these countries to be just like them, watch, wait & see. You know I’m right.
