Hot Monkey Love Cafe fundraiser tonight
Just got this e-mail:
There are only a few really successful safe community spaces, especially for young people. San Diego has one of those at the Hot Monkey Love Café on El Cajon Blvd, which hosts everything from Salsa dancing to free exhibition space for local artists. The Café has had a short-lived problem with neighbors that threatens to shut them down. But if they can raise $5,000 by Monday, they can stay open. Please keep this excellent site open—and party at the Hot Monkey Love Café on Friday!
What: Help Save Hot Monkey Love Cafe and Music Hall
When: Friday, January 4, 7:00 PM
Event fee: $40 per person
Where: 6875 El Cajon Blvd., 92115 (619-469-4113)
Who: Everyone who wants to see Hot Monkey Love stay open!
Why: Hot Monkey Love Cafe is a San Diego icon. We must raise $5,000 by Monday morning or it will have to close its doors. It has been a safe place for kids to come for drug free activities as well as a place for people of all ages to come and enjoy art and meeting.Hot Monkey Love has long been a great meeting spot for progressive events. In fact, a part of the problem with finances is the fact that Alma and Rick Felan have donated much of their money and space to help make the community a better place.

This reminds me of that episode of Saved By The Bell where Zack and Slater put together a fundraiser for The Max.
Damned College Area residents. They really hate the young’uns, don’t they?
I want to know what the five-large will buy.
