The World is So Fucking Insane…
…that you sometimes have to just stop whatever it is you’re doing and vomit uncontrollably. Take for instance what we’re learning these days from Liberia’s Post Civil War Reconciliation Commission hearings about the 14 year Liberian civil war (1989-2003), where, for example, drugged out fighters dressed in wedding gowns and wigs rampaged through villages raping and murdering people. What to make of the confessions of “General Butt Naked,” leader of an elite squad of occultist warriors who fought in the nude, slaughtering over 20,000 people? The general confessed to the Commission last week his atrocities, which included killing children and then ripping out and eating their hearts. Eventually, God appeared to him on the battlefield and told him to stop it. Now he’s a Christian. Way to show up on time, God.

Yes, mental illness takes many forms and shapes, but is seen to persistent in the human species over the millenia. Currently about 1% of the US alone suffers from schizophrenia, and there are other mental diagnoses, of greater and lesser significance to structured, empathetic thought, beyond that. For just schizophrenia,
* 6% are homeless or live in shelters
* 6% live in jails or prisons
* 5% to 6% live in hospitals
* 10% live in nursing homes
* 25% live with a family member
* 28% are living independently
* 20% live in supervised housing (group homes, etc.)
I don’t know what diagnoses might prevail in Liberia. But mentally healthy species do not commit insane murders.
And apparently, 98 % of the mentally ill are politicians.
It wasn’t politicians who cut out and ate children’s hearts, Tabitha. The problem is much bigger than politics. The problem is human failure.
