Slightly Grand
Late last night, The Powers That Be unveiled the 2008 Coachella Music & Arts Festival lineup. In a terse press release, organizers announced that they were “bored” with only booking hipster bands and decided instead to cull this year’s lineup from the county fair/casino circuit.
Poison, Journey and Smashmouth will be the respective headliners on each of the festival’s three days. Other bands will include Three Dog Night, Styx, Warrant, Oak Ridge Boys, Whitesnake, The Temptations, Heart, Charlie Daniels Band, Def Leppard, Steppenwolf, REO Speedwagon, Village People, Air Supply, .38 Special, War, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Chaka Khan, Lee Greenwood, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Foreigner, Gin Blossoms, Quiet Riot and Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
You know I’m kidding. But you’re also secretly hoping that I’m not.
No, Coachella is still Coachella. And this year at least two San Diego bands will be making the trip out to the desert: Slightly Stoopid and Grand Ole Party. Kudos.
Other acts playing Coachella that’ll be hitting San Diego before the April 25-27 festival include: MGMT (1/25, Casbah), Rogue Wave (1/31, Belly Up), Holy Fuck (2/6, Belly Up), Black Mountain (2/7, Casbah), Black Lips (2/13, Casbah), Sia (2/15, Belly Up), Enter Shikari (2/17, SOMA), Vampire Weekend (3/19, Casbah), Manchester Orchestra (4/13, HOB) and, of course, local sweethearts Grand Ole Party on Valentine’s Day at The Casbah.
You’d best get up on it since two of those shows (Rogue Wave and Sia) are already sold out. But don’t fret. There’s probably still some good tickets available for the Def Leppard/Styx/REO Speedwagon show at Coors on April 26.

Blasphemy! The lead singer from Quiet Riot died a few weeks ago, how dare you make fun of his terrible terrible band.
i’m such a gullible sucker… i was momentarily appalled. athough, i’d be down for some chaka khan.
Portishead is headlining Saturday? Seriously?
