We’ve heard of “sinking your kittens” but this is ridiculous
A North County Times copy editor fooling around on the job replaced the word “held” with the word “strangled” in an AP story in yesterday’s paper under the headline “Pet sterilization now law in L.A.” However, as sometimes happens with jokes, this one went awry when the wrong edit accidentally made it into the published paper.
Here’s the the messed up quote:
“We will, sooner, rather than later, become a no-kill city, and this is the greatest step in that direction,” Councilman Tony Cardenas, who co-authored the bill, said as he strangled a kitten at a City Hall news conference.
The editor of the NCT, Kent Davy, apologized to readers, Cardenas, and the AP in a letter now appended to the bottom of a corrected version of the story. He said the copy editor who initiated the joke was fired, and the editor who let it get into print was suspended.
Want to know something even more amazing than all that? The scan of the article first came to CityBeat through a press release from Minuteman and immigrant-hater Jeff Schwilk. Most unlikely source of the funny, ever.

oh snap!
