Coffey drops out and endorses Peters, as predicted

dscn1712.jpgAs CityBeat predicted earlier, Dan Coffey withdrew his bid for City Attorney this afternoon to endorse City Council President Scott Peters. Coffey adopted 2008’s favorite campaign theme–change–saying, “it is really in the city’s best interest to support Peters,” who he said is the “natural choice” to boot incumbent Mike Aguirre out and turn the office around.

Perhaps even more amusing, though, was Peters decision to give the metaphorical tree a quick shake to see if any other candidates would drop out.

“I talked to all the candidates and said, ‘I think it’s best to stay united,’” Peters said.

Meaning, I presume, that they should drop out and unite behind Peters.

But Peters seemed content that they held their ground, saying, “It’s a great field.”

This may be the last “major announcement” of this species for a while.
