Old but interesting news

March 10, 2008 - 9:56 am

Robert Graham saw a future much like the one envisioned by Mike Judge in Idiocracy. He set up a secret sperm bank in Escondido and only took sperm donations from qualified geniuses, mostly because he was obsessed with the idea of society’s eminent degradation due to unchecked breeding.   There’s more information on the Best Free Documentary blog about The Genius Sperm Bank, the BBC special on the sperm bank that came out in 2006.

Good old Slate picked up where the story left off and David Plotz first wrote an article calling on readers to e-mail him if with any information on the more than 200 children the sperm bank produced. Then, armed with his many responses to the online article, he eventually wrote a book, The Genius Factory (Random House 2006).
