Our own local Sotheby’s

confucius.jpgOn April 9, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego holds its benefit art auction. I, probably like you, can’t really afford anything (it costs $100 to $175 for admission, for starters), but it’s a fun time-waster looking at what’s up for bid. Like the Marcos Ramirez ERRE’s “Confucious” to the right, which I’d grab if I had an extra few thou.

I was just up there yesterday to peruse the goods. There were a number of things which seemed entirely impossible to appropriately display in a home, but it definitely also inspired me to go back over all my margin doodles in search of big money.

Oh, and the LED room is rad. I want one.

I think its wonderful that the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is selling off work… perhaps that means they will be in the market soon for fresh new art – we can only hope by Contemporary San Diego artists.

Art collectors, you may be interested in attending Jori Finkel’s talk, hosted by the San Diego Fine Art Society April 17th, “Finding your way in today’s art market.” – Jori is a frequent contributor to the New York Times on issues related to Southern California Contemporary art and is the former editor of Art + Auction magazine.
