Skybus…your sucky, doomed alternative.
Well, it was a bad idea, and now it’s gone. Some of you may remember my post about Skybus when they started flying out of Lindbergh Field in May. The promise was really cheap fares ($10, if you were fast enough to get it before it sold out) to Columbus, Ohio. To go anywhere else, customers had to book a second flight from Columbus to somewhere better, and then when they got to Columbus, execute a manual transfer: Leave security, pick up luggage, recheck luggage, go back through security, hope they didn’t miss their flights.
Well, as part of the rule of threes, Skybus joined Aloha Airlines and ATA to bite the dust last week. To all those pro-Columbus folks who expressed their displeasure when I suggested that maybe not that many actually want to go to Columbus, I believe my answer to you right now is a loud and hearty “NEENER!”
PS Thanks to commenter Mr. Mike for the headline of this post. He was comment number 1 back then, and a prophet.

This completely sucks for the many folks who are stuck someplace unfamiliar. People are very vulnerable when traveling and it is a crime to take advantage of them. I hope that the executives over at Skybus end up before a Senate Hearing this fall!

“There is no evidence whatsoever from Ohio or anywhere else to suggest [Skybus] has acted in anything other than an honorable and professional fashion.”
And what ever happened to Michael Vu?
And…I still won’t eat squareburgers.
I disagree with the statement that Skybus was acting in an honorable and unprofessional manner. Um, I booked tickets 2 days before they went under. They had no problem collecting my money, and now I probably won’t be getting it back. They should be ashamed of screwing people out of money like that. If they were doing that poorly, they shouldn’t have stolen money from people who were trying to give them business. What about all of the people who were stranded? They didn’t even warn them before they boarded a plane out that they were going to have no way home. And, they sent out e-mail to cancel??? Not everyone takes a computer on vacation with them, so some didn’t even know until the last minute. Really, they deserve to be out of business.
freq_flyer: I was just joking around with the original comments, and took a quote from CityBeat’s article about the County dismissing outraged San Diegans’ concerns about the County Registrar of Voters hiring of Ohio’s disgraced voter official, Michael Vu. Remember Ohio Dems, 2004!
I’m sure anything connected to Ohio’s right-guard corpratocracy is hard pressed to be honorable and professional. Sorry the airline has your money. Hope you get it back. The state of Ohio had lots of peoples’ votes, and screwed them, too. And we’ll never get 2004 back.
