Flowers. Lots and lots of flowers
I took my visiting family to the San Diego Museum of Art this past weekend and was very, very pleased by the Art Alive exhibition. I don’t generally use words like “pleased,” but it seems appropriate when describing the mostly exquisite floral designs inspired by art pieces in the museum.
My favorite arrangements were the ones that were more abstract rather than representational — the ones that relied on basic structure and color and went off from there. The arrangements that attempted to make flowers look like the virgin with child just looked a tad ridiculous and ended up being a jumble of flowers no one would ever display anywhere.
But in the end, the sights mixed with the smells made for a lovely, or pleasing, day at the park. Next time Art Alive rolls around, I definitely recommend a visit.
And as if a day at SDMA surrounded by art and flowers wasn’t enough, a few days later, I took my sister to the Carlsbad Flower Fields. The waves and waves of color were pretty intense and almost — just almost — worth the $9 a ticket. The fields aren’t something I’d do on my own, but they are perfect for impressing the Midwesterner who’s still dealing with waves and waves of white snow and sleet and rain in April and May.
