Outdoor movie fun, just a click away

May 19, 2008 - 3:12 pm

Have you been to the velodrome on Tuesday nights yet? Men and women in tight spandex ride round and round the track while bicycle-loving hipsters root for their favorite cyclist or just kick back and enjoy the fresh air and friendly atmosphere.

The whole thing is a unique outdoor experience that really can’t be beat, except….

Imagine going to the velodrome and seeing a huge screen in the middle of the track. Imagine you and all of your friends spreading out a blanket and enjoying a live, outdoor DJ-spun set followed by a screening of your favorite film while cyclists cruise round and round. This exact scenario — with many more details yet to be announced — is what Joel Martin wants to see happen with Cinevelo, a cinema/cycling/music event that would take place on Saturdays at the velodrome throughout the summer months.

Martin needs a bit of community support in order to make Cinevelo happen. If the event sounds like your cup of tea, cruise on over to the site and fill out the short petition of support.

This sounds really cool. I love outdoor movies. I’ve only ever done them via drive-in, but bike-in sounds rad.

This is awesome! I can’t wait! Well.. I really hope this goes through despite the challenges 20 Saturdays Productions has been experiencing.

An event like this shouldn’t only exist in places such as L.A. and New York. “Cinema Under The Stars” in Mission Hills is wonderful, but not meant for a grander audience to enjoy cinema, casually, like bringing with you your own picnic with you.

Simply stated : CINEVELO would be a gift to San Diego in this manner. Let’s make it happen! Sign the petition today at http://www.cinevelo.org
