Local progressives pass on Aguirre
Interesting choice of language from Progressive San Diego’s Board of Directors in their letter explaining their non-endorsement in the city attorney race. Note the line about “sufficient modesty” and “political grandstanding”:
Progressive San Diego is taking no position on the candidates in the primary race for San Diego City Attorney. While a candidate’s commitment to progressive values is the top consideration, PSD also looks for candidates with exceptional legal knowledge and acumen, the skills to lead the city’s largest law firm, a history of fidelity to the rule of law, and sufficient modesty to ensure that the city’s decision-makers do not mistake the delivery of sound but painful legal advice for political grandstanding. Nearly every candidate fares better than the competition when measured by one criterion or another, but no candidate stands out from the crowd when all criteria are considered. PSD has therefore decided to take no position at this stage of the City Attorney’s race.
The PSD Board is: Rob Solmer, Bruce Reznik, Cory Briggs, Graham Forbes, Theresa Quiroz, Gabriel Solmer, Richard Barrera, Suzanne Bevash, Estela De Los Rios, John Falchi, Ken Grimes, Joy Holmes, Emily Serafy Cox and Pedro Silva.

not sure what “progressive” means here- i’m assuming we’re talking “liberal” but it’s hardly surprising since many of aguirre’s challengers are “progressive.” aguirre still attracts “progressive” voters in the sense that he buts head with the cities republican political establishment.
Aguirre has defended the law and by doing so, has done the difficult job of defending the citizens of San Diego. The criminals caught in the headlights of course cause a ruckus and call it grandstanding when the conflict makes news. If they had followed the law in the first place, there would have been NO sparks and thus no “grandstanding”. We need a proven defender of the law and of citizens’ rights, to fight off the criminal element running rampant in this mayor’s office. Why isn’t Chief Lansdowne in jail, instead of still in office?
