More big gay news
The New York Times had a story today about Gov. David Patterson’s order that New York will recognize out-of-state same-sex marriages even though the state doesn’t allow same-sex marriage. It’s the best Patterson can do since last year the Republican controlled Senate voted down a law to allow same-sex marriage.
Then there’s the news yesterday about a California Field Poll finding that 51 percent of respondents support gay marriage and 54 percent “generally” oppose amending the state constitution to ban it. Though, which poll do you believe? Because there’s this:
The Field Poll’s finding conflicts with a Los Angeles Times/KTLA poll of 705 voters released last week that found 54 percent backed the proposed gay marriage ban and 35 percent opposed it.
It was a Field Poll that predicted that Prop. 66, which would have amended California’s Three Strikes law, would pass swimmingly. Prop. 66 failed after a last-minute push by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California District Attorneys Association. Though, the rally against Prop. 66 relied on fear tactics (“look at all the scary looking people who’ll be released from jail”). What sort of scary things might the homo-hating heteros come up with? Other than their own divorce rate.
