The Steve Francis sprint

Mayoral candidate Steve Francis has plans to “sprint” around San Diego’s eight council districts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today (Monday). Sounds exciting. Let’s assess the stops:

8 a.m. John’s Waffle Shop, 7906 Girard Ave. La Jolla (District 1).
The website sd.dailyjolt.com calls this spot “La Jolla’s most famous breakfast nook.” But are waffles the best choice for a long day of campaigning? I dunno. Kinda heavy. Now, if he ordered a side of eggs and bacon, that would be a good protein/carbs combo.

10 a.m. Mission Bay Park Visitor’s Center, 2688 East Mission Bay Drive (District 6)
According to Yahoo travel, “this place used to have the most helpful people at their front desk‚ now you’re lucky to get a smile.”

11 a.m. Albertson’s, 10633 Tierrasanta Blvd. (District 7)
Courting the housewives.

12:30 p.m. Food Court, Sorrento Towers Plaza (District 5)
Courting their husbands

3:30 p.m. Magnolia’s Restaurant, 342 Euclid Ave., Encanto (District 4)
Excellent choice. Try the ettoufees; hush puppies are a must. Yum. Perhaps we’ll see you there.

5 p.m. Starbucks Coffee, 2828 National Ave # 100, Barrio Logan (District 8 )
Oh Steve. Of all the places in Barrio Logan, you picked a Starbucks? Quick—change up your plans. If you’re going for coffee, what about Chicano Perk (129 25th St.)? Try the Meximocha. Or Chuey’s? Or Las Cuatro Milpas—been around for 50 years. How long’s that Starbucks been there?

6 p.m. Petco Park, Tony Gwynn Way and K Street (District 2)
Associating yourself with the team that’s tied for last place? Oof. We recommend The Kebab Shop (630 Ninth Ave.). Support small businesses, yo! You’ll need some pretty strong breath mints afterwards, but we’re sure one of your handlers has some Tic Tacs or something.

7:30 p.m. Bamboo Lounge, 1475 University Ave., Hillcrest (District 3)
Ending where it all started. Courtin’ the gay vote. Just don’t tell ‘em you don’t support gay marriage (”civil unions, blah blah blah”). Or, maybe the LGBT crowd will turn out in force to change your mind. That’ll make for a killer pre-election press release.
