Biking is super hot right now

A massive community midnight bike ride is set to take place in August. Registration just opened. Click below for the details:

Registration is now open for the 35th Annual Midnight Madness Fun Bicycle Ride. Approximately 1,500 bicyclists of all ages will line up at midnight for the ride on Saturday Night August 16th, 2008. The bicyclists will ride along the primarily flat 20 mile route starting at the San Diego County Administration Building at 1600 Pacific Highway. Traveling some of the most scenic areas of San Diego including Harbor Island, Shelter Island, Old Town, and Downtown San Diego, this recreational event has grown over the years into one of the most renowned bicycling events that brings people from all over San Diego County and Southern California. The raffle, the Alaska Airlines Costume Contest, and the REI Light the Bike Contest will take place before the ride.

Riders can join this bicycling tradition for $28 pre-registration or $35 night of the event. Registration will open June 9th 2008. Riders can register on-line at www.active.com or visit www.sandiegomidnightmadness.org. Paid registration includes a 100% cotton event t-shirt, admission to contests and festivities, participation in the ride, goodie bag, and safety support.

The event will be co-hosted by Hostelling International USA, San Diego Council and the Uptown Optimist Club of San Diego and proceeds from the ride will benefit youth education and outreach programs for both non-profit organizations.

HI-San Diego is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is “To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.” This mission is accomplished by providing programs and inexpensive accommodations designed to promote cultural understanding and global awareness through travel and shared experiences. The San Diego Council serves this mission by offering programs and accommodations in two locations in San Diego.
