DIGABLE TO-DO The New Children’s Museum has been open for more than a month. If you haven’t been yet, you need to go. It may be one of the hippest children’s museums in the nation. And we’re reeling in the hyperbole here, people. A good day to visit the new space would be this weekend because then you can check out the new Children’s Museum Park, which celebrates its grand opening on Thursday afternoon. The park is located on Island Avenue and Front Street just across the way from the museum and has all the park essentials, including a playground, reading circle, lawn and shade trellises plus a few museum-type extras like artwork by Quincy Troupe and Roberto Salas. There’s a lovely lady by the name of Jill who’s been throwing art events around town for some time now. Why? Quite simply because she thinks there’s art around all of us and it should be exposed. At 6 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at The Studio at North Park, 3800 30th St., Jill will be celebrating the launch of Hillcrest More Super Sundays, an event that will let her expose local San Diego artists on the second Sunday of every month through October. The night will include dance presentations and morewhat an excellent way to kick off your Ray at Night experience, which happens on and around Ray Street in North Park the same night until 9 p.m. Then, on Sunday, June 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. check out the first-ever Super Sunday event at participating galleries and stores on University and Richmond in Hillcrest. www.moresuper.com |

DIGABLE STYLES Up in Oceanside, at 530 South Coast Highway to be exact, there’s a quirky yet surprisingly tasteful boutique and gallery by the name of Swiv Tackle Circus. One side of the space is dedicated to art by guys and gals like the socially critical neo-contemporary artist Ben Horton and the radical graffiti/pop/fine-art painter Lisa Solberg, and the other side of the space is used for hawking super sweet threads, like the limited-edition series of tees by local artist Mike Maxwell and the latest gear by the greatest, Shepard Fairey. Smack dab in the middle, you’ll find the cute-as-can-be, circus-loving couple who owns the shop plus some odds and ends by local jewelry artists and crafters. www.swivtacklecircus.com |

DIGABLE SOUNDS We heart Buddy Akai. At the MSTRKRFT show in Tijuana last weekend, they came pretty close to showing up the headliner. They’d never admit that, of course, but see for yourself at the elctro-rock crew’s next show at Che CafĂ© on the UCSD campus June 14. www.myspace.com/buddyakai |

Deep fried SPAM? This proves we don’t have a single unified agenda.
