America’s cheapest city

Interesting that there’s a fire today, given this story in the New York Times (thanks to voiceofsandiego.org’s Andy Donohue for pointing it out). Apparently, we’re cheap—er, thrifty—according to our mayor, and not willing to pay for adequate fire-fighting equipment. Yikes—way to make us look bad to the rest of the country! Andy sums it up well:

That quote by the mayor jumped out at me, considering he has said he doesn’t yet support raising city taxes to help solve the city’s financial problems.
