Where will you watch?

September 23, 2008 - 4:30 pm

This Friday night at 6 pm, Obama eviscerates McCain in the first of 3 televised debates!

Obama Supporters are hosting over 30 debate watching parties all over San Diego County, and you are invited. It’s more fun than watching alone.

Here are my favorites:

1. Camp Pendleton Debate Party.  Hosted by Megan Martignago & her husband. Join military and their families for Obama. location: San Onofre 2 complex. Please email Megsandadam@gmail.com for directions.

2. Hensley’s Flying Elephant Pub & Grill in Carlsbad. A pub and grill owned by former professional skateboarder and accordionist for Flogging Molly, Matt Hensley. 850 Tamarack Ave.  Rowdy!

3. VISION CAFE Debate Watching Party.  This is a newer Ethiopian-owned Cafe in North Park. I think I will be watching here.  I hear they have really good samosas. And I would like to hear some East African commentary on the debate. 4596 30th St San Diego, CA 92116

4. Yes We Can! Party in Ramona.  1133 Alice Street, Ramona, CA 92065 “Watch the debate in our small living room then discuss how we can get out the vote in Ramona!”  Go out there and show some support for our sisters & brothers in the boonies.

5. Debate Watch & Pizza Night at the No. County Dem. Unity Office. 135 E. Grand, Escondido.  Free pizza!  My friend got some bumper stickers from them last week and said the dems face some harrassment out there, so they deserve some support.

6. Yes We Can, La Jolla. 628 Westbourne St. I like their pitch: “Come join us to watch the first debate to be with like minded souls and to find solace in this world of craziness amongst others.”

7. Obama-Biden Campaign Community Office. 1744 Euclid Ave. Promises to be a diverse and exciting group at this gathering.

8. San Diego Dems Unite Debate Watching Party! 7847 Convoy Ct. Suire 101.  This is the main SD Dem. HQ on Convoy St., so you have an excuse to grab dinner after the debate at The Dumpling Inn!

There are many more spots all over town; check the “debate watching parties” link above.

Make sure to RSVP the party of your choice.

Here’s a little more info. about the debate to get you fired up:

The debate will be held at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, and will focus on foreign policy & national security. The moderator is Jim Lehrer of the PBS Newshour.

The answer format will be more free-form than usual: The debate will be broken into nine, 9-minute segments. The moderator will introduce a topic and allow each candidate 2 minutes to comment. After these initial answers, the moderator will facilitate an open discussion of the topic for the remaining 5 minutes, ensuring that both candidates receive an equal amount of time to comment

Each debate will be broadcast on the major broadcast networks, including CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX. They will also be aired on cable news channels such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and C-SPAN.

This just in: McCain is trying to get Obama to agree to a postponement of Friday’s debate in light of the economic crisis.

It’s back on. Hope to see some CityBeat folks at Visions Cafe, but wherever you watch, please make sure everyone you talk to is registered to vote. Still have until October 20th to register.
