The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics just released the results of its compensation survey for the San Diego area. Some highlights and whatnot:
* The average worker in San Diego county makes $21.91 an hour and works 35.3 hours a week (where are we living? France?)
* Union workers do better than their non-union peers, earning $25.12 compared to $21.14 an hour.
* The larger the company, the higher the wages. Workers at companies with less than 100 employees earn $19.06 an hour, on average, while workers at companies with more than 500 employees earn $26.76 an hour, on average.
* Management-level government employees make almost three times the area’s average ($59.04 an hour). In fact, government employees make far more than their private-sector counterparts, according to the survey. For instance, a public-sector janitor earns $16.12 an hour, on average, while the same position in the private sector brings in $11.97 an hour, on average.
If you are desperately interested in taking a look at the study, you can find it here, under California.
