Where my drinking Democrats at?

October 2, 2008 - 11:30 am

Last Friday found me roaming the sidewalks of Ocean Beach, trying to find a public place that was showing the presidential debate.  No luck at most bars, where sports games dominated the TV’s, but I have to give a shout-out to the coffeehouse Your Mama’s Mug, who had the debate playing loudly on a small TV set.  I could have used some wine and food to calm my nerves and I found both later at the 3rd Corner, where the debate was also being run, but with closed-captioning, which kind of ruins the potency of such a discussion.

Tonight, I might watch the vice-presidential battle at Sea Rocket Bistro, who’ll have their bar TV tuned to the debate (with sound) and has an excellent local beer selection, which should help you choke down Palin’s folksy aphorisms (did you know she’s a poet too?).  Anywhere else in town that’ll be serving drinks and food with a side of politics?

Watched the 1st Obama/McCain debate at Downtown Johnny Brown’s – all the televisions on CNN with volume on (as well as closed caption so you could hear over the chatter) and a full house at the restaurant/bar. Not OB, and too late for tonight’s debate, but the crowd seemed generally left leaning…perhaps the next O/M debate for you…they have wine, spirits, beer & food!
