October 29, 2008 - 4:50 pm

The San Diego Union-Tribune‘s newsblog said the paper received an envelope labeled “anthrax sample” this afternoon which was then opened by a news assistant. Firefighters, police, and federal agents were all over the the paper’s Mission Valley headquarters. The envelope also contained a CD showing a photo of former Secretary of State Colin Powell. A spokesman from the fire department said there was nothing to indicate the powder was harmful, but that they are taking every precaution.

Other media outlets have been receiving the envelopes since Monday. FBI officials had alerted the San Diego Fire Department to the possibility.
