San Diego Shows – November 6

November 6, 2008 - 4:56 pm

As The Kinsee Report states below, definitely start your night out at TNT at the Museum of Contemporary Art, where Transfer and Holy Rolling Empire (a Tucson band that scores points with me on their name alone) will be playing. Then have your choice of any of the following and you can’t go wrong in my opinion:

PLAN A: The Heartless Bastards, The Old Palominos @ Beauty Bar. Here at the CityBeat office, we don’t usually agree on much. So it’s a huge compliment that three members of our editorial staff concede that The Heartless Bastards’ gritty, female-fronted rock ’n’ roll kicks much ass.

PLAN B: The Faint, Dr. Dooom (Kool Keith) @ Brick By Brick. The Faint still play morbid, grimy electro-pop, and Kool Keith has resurrected his Dr. Dooom alias, remaining the strangest MC on the planet. Not much has changed since 1999, except for the fact that they’re touring together.

BACKUP PLAN: The Focus Group @ Bar Pink Great, moody indie rock in the vein of shoegaze and Echo and the Bunnymen.

Here’s the rest:

China Clippers, Buckfast Superbee, Nautical Disaster @ Casbah-Another great local rock sh

Subadons, Roosevelt @ The Ken Club-Fun garage-punk from TJ!

Wendy Darling,The Sentient Manifesto, Ze Red Lights @ Radio Room-CityBeat will be publishing an article on Wendy Darling soon. Come see why I’m crazy about their pop-friendly indie sound and sexy singer Cori Rush.

Leopold and his Fiction @ The Ruby Room (former San Diego Sports Club) A Bob Dylan delivery with a garage-rock sound straight from San Fran.

The Expendables, Rebelution, OPM, Poor Habit @ House of Blue

Rob Deez, EJP, Jordan Reimer @ Lestat’s

Keller Williams, Moseley, Droll & Sipe @ Belly Up

Flight To Athena, Young Goodmen, Stereo Summer @ 710 Beach Club-Cool name, bad music. Sound like every other pop-punk, emo band out there. Check out the pic on MySpace for a laugh.

Milton Henry, The Lambs Blood, Organika DJs @ Winston’s

Hard Echo, Motus, Deaf Zero, Forty One Sixty & Tainted Society @ Canes

Anthology House Band @ Anthology

Kind of hard to get excited about A & Em over & over again, but maybe i’m too much a fan of song & not enough of pure thud when it comes to rock and roll.
