How to spend your day off

November 11, 2008 - 9:31 am

I don’t have Veteran’s Day off work, but one of my friends, who is a state employee, does. On Facebook, different friends were making suggestions for how she should spend it.

I suggest that she and anyone else with the day off visit Point Loma. Take Rosecrans Street all the way to the end of the peninsula, stopping halfway to pick up a box lunch at Con Pane bakery (1110 Rosecrans St.). Visit the historic lighthouse, take a bike ride or walk around the peninsula, and have your picnic. Before you leave, pay your respects to the veterans interred at Fort Rosecrans, including the 31 Californians killed in the Iraq War buried here:

Or, if you can’t make it to Point Loma, buy some sandwiches and hand them out to the homeless vets who hang out near Seaport Village.

Good. I don’t want the sandwich police f**king with people.

As long as the sandwich is pre-prepared and wrapped, there shouldn’t be a problem!
