PLAN A: Dead Confederate, Apollo Sunshine, The Northstar Session @ The Casbah. Dead Confederate’s live shows have destructive tendencies, hence the name of their latest album, Wrecking Ball. They’re like the Southern Nirvana, and with a trio of hippies who have serious identity issues (Apollo Sunshine), they kick off one hell of a week for The Casbah. PLAN B: River City @ Bar Pink. River City don’t play freak-folk, anti-folk or folk-punk. It’s just folk, and there’s something refreshing about that.
If you haven’t purchased them already, there’s still a chance to get tickets for CityBeat‘s very own Best Of San Diego party at the New Children’s Museum, 200 W. Island St., Downtown. In addition to sampling boatloads of booze at the Craft Beer Fest and food from some of the area’s most popular restaurants, there’s circus art performance from Zirk Ubu and live music by ass-shaking soul combo Lady Dottie and the Diamonds. The whole deal kicks off at 7 p.m., and tickets are available for $20 at the door.
It unfortunate that they’re stuck between two pieces of plain white bread (War Stories and …students), but The Bloody Hollies are enough greasy, meaty goodness to bring flavor to any sandwich. The group does straight-up rock ‘n roll as well as anybody in town, and they’re liable to make the other two acts pale in comparison at tonight’s 91X Loudspeaker Showcase at U-31 in North Park.
