San Diego Shows – Monday November 17
PLAN A: Love is All, Vivian Girls, Grand Ole Party @ The Casbah. Love is All can blatantly steal keyboard riffs from The Clean (“Wishing Well”), but they’re so ecstatic about it, it’s impossible to fault them. And who knows who The Clean is anyway? PLAN B: As I Lay Dying, Destroy the Runner @ Jumping Turtle. I find it incredible that the latest album from Christian metal band As I Lay Dying debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard charts. Wait, I’m catching a little bit of déjà vu. -Todd Kroviak
Love is All are super fun and are getting some great reviews for their new album. Check out the video for “Wishing Well.” Very Nena-esque… Not to mention the fact that I totally have a puppy-dog crush on Vivian Girls bassist Kickball Katy.
AS I Lay Dying is filming their show tonight for their first live DVD so I would imagine they’ll really be putting on a great show, if not a little bit more metal posturing.
If you’re not into those shows, fellow blogger Rosey is super-smitten with Angus of Aussie-folkies Angus and Julia Stone, who are opening their U.S. tour at the Loft at UCSD tonight. Have to admit, very lovely stuff. Let me know if you need a wing-man Rosey. I’ll distract Julia for you.
Another good one is Diablo Dimes at Beauty Bar. Not sure when this guy split San Diego for the “Deep South,” but welcome back sir.
And the rest:
Elisa, Ari Hest @ Belly Up
Matisyahu, Flobots @ House of Blues-Don’t try and get backstage ladies. It’s against his religion to even shake your hand.
Mystery Train @ O’Connel’s
Lady Dottie and the Diamonds @ U-31
Electric Waste Band (Grateful Dead cover band) @ Winston’s
Save Amos, Blue in the Face, DJ Sean Mop @ Radio Room
