PLAN A: Blitzen Trapper, The Parson Redheads, Team Abraham @ The Casbah. Blitzen Trapper: excellent folk-rock band or the latest in a series of over-hyped acts signed to Sub Pop? Discuss amongst yourselves. PLAN B: The Sisters of Mercy, Hypernova @ House of Blues. The Sisters actually kicked ass before they got lumped together with every other group of pale whiners wearing dark sunglasses. If they stick to the early material, you’re golden. If not, expect to see a lot of running eyeliner. BACKUP PLAN: Ziggy Shuffledust and the Spiders from Mars, Rafter, DJ Saul Q @ Ruby Room. -Todd Kroviak
If you’re a regular reader of CityBeat, then you already know we love Blitzen Trapper (see Jason Bow’s feature and Dryw Keltz’s review). No, we’re not playin’ favorites here (see Todd’s rather impartial take above), but they’re definitely competing with Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver as most-hyped act of the year. If you can’t make it to The Casbah, the boys are playing a free in-store and signing copies of their album at M-Theory Music on Sunday at 1PM.

The Cured at 710 Beach Club-Speaking of local tribute/cover bands, there’s a reason these guys are known nationally as one of the best Cure tributes around. Plus, they don’t play anything post-Wish and that’s always a good thing.
