San Diego Shows: Wednesday, Dec. 3

December 3, 2008 - 6:07 pm

PLAN A: Monsters from Mars, Syndicate, The Predicates @ The Casbah. In case you’re wondering, their forthcoming split 7-inch with The Creepy Creeps suggests there’s room for two surf-punk party bands in the same town. And yes, Monsters from Mars are pretty damn fun, too. PLAN B: The Fall of Troy, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Warship, Black Houses @ SOMA. Warship might be the heaviest band on Vagrant Records. OK, so that’s only the equivalent of the mellowest band on Hydra Head, but they work up a head of steam big enough to keep up with their hardcore peers.

Local riff-mongers Daemos aren’t part of the recent metal revival. Instead, they’re a throwback to the days before Dimebag Darrell got shot in the face and Slipknot temporarily convinced people that they were kinda good. Namely, the late 90s, before metal became cool again. This makes sense, especially considering they’ve been hitting clubs around town since 1997, opening for headbangers like Strapping Young Lad and Judas Priest in the process. If there were ever a time to capitalize on playing a previously unfashionable music, this is it, and the band brings their three-pronged thrash attack to the Ruby Room tonight. But beware – this one is for the true metalheads only.
