Marti Emerald supports Ben Hueso
Following up on Eric Wolff’s post about the selection of a new City Council president, new councilmember Marti Emerald said she’ll be voting for Ben Hueso because he was there for her during her campaign, making phone calls and walking the district.
I asked her how the behind-the-scenes mechanics worked. She said she’d had one conversation with a member of the City Council about the presidency, and that was with Donna Frye last night, during which Emerald broke the news about her plans to support Hueso.
During her speech at today’s inuguration, Emerald said it was important for the public’s business to be done in public. Frye has been the city’s undisputed champion when it comes to public access to information and decisions being made in public. So, one might think Emerald would consider Frye a good choice for the council leader. Looks like, for Emerald, paying back favors is even more important.
