Joshua Emery Blatchley at Thirsty Moon Records

December 11, 2008 - 4:47 pm

If you don’t already know, Thirsty Moon is a tiny record store on Evans Place in Hillcrest. It is owned and operated by Mario and Mike of Earthless and, as far as I can tell, this other dude named Jeff. They have the best selection of rare psych LPs in town, period. Anywhoo, the Moon is holding an free acoustic in-store performance by phenomenally talented local guitarist Joshua Emery Blatchley  at 7 p.m. tomorrow night, Friday, Dec. 12.

Blatchley opened for Pontiak and Red Octopus last Saturday, and I was expecting an acoustic set, much like the bluesy ragtime recordings currently up on his MySpace page. Instead, he went electric, treating those in attendance to towering waves of heavily delayed and looped guitar fuzz. It was like watching an excruciatingly loud and atonal Frippertronics demo without the reel-to-reel. Needless to say, pretty incredible.
