San Diego Shows–Tuesday, January 20, 2009

PLAN A: Curumin @ The Loft at UCSD. Luciano Nakata Albuquerque has a musical track record even longer and more diverse than his name. His latest, Japan Pop Show, is a journey through Brazilian pop, hip-hop, rock, funk, jazz and just about every other genre known to man. PLAN B: Silverleaf, Ryan Blue @ Beauty Bar. Even more indie-folk emerges from the local bar scene. Funny, I thought I was living in San Diego, not Austin. –Todd Kroviak
Honorable Mention:
Three Mile Pilot, Physics, The Long and Short of It @ The Casbah–Check out AnnaMaria Stephens’ great feature on them this week. Very much sold out, but if you’ve got some dough Craigslist is calling your name. Making this show doubly exciting, and keeping with the recent reunion trend, math-rockers Physics are opening. Founding member Jason Soares says the band will also re-release its albums on San Francisco-based label Neurot Recordings sometime in 2009. And you can’t go wrong with the balls-out rock of Long and Short of It.
“Too Cool For Karaoke: Blacken the White House Inauguration Ball” @ Ruby Room
“Pressure Drop” with DJ Jeff Graves and Skarina @ Radio Room
Franklin for Short @ Soda Bar
