San Diego Shows–Sunday, February 9

PLAN A: Nappy Roots @ The Loft at UCSD. Best known for their breezy 2002 single “Po’ Folks,” Nappy Roots are basically Kentucky’s version of Goodie Mob. Break out the moonshine, steal some buds from Pappy’s hemp farm, and you should be all set. PLAN B: Jesse Michaels, Kevin Seconds,Andrew Jackson Jihad, Ready the Jet @ Radio Room. Jesse Michaels is the former singer of Operation Ivy, also known as the band that (regrettably) begat Rancid. A little-known fact: “Op Iv” was written on more middle school backpacks than any other band name in history. BACKUP PLAN: Circa Survive, Halos, Endless Hallway @ SOMA. –Todd Kroviak
Music Video of the Day: Nappy Roots–”Po’ Folks”
I would highly recommend that you DO NOT see Circa Survive. That is, unless, you’re a 14-year-old-girl. I saw these guys a few years ago at Coachella and am still amazed at the fact that there is emo in the world this bad. These guys make Dashboard Confessional look like John Wayne. Me and my baby brother still joke about how the lead singer was oh-so-tortured and how if we ever saw him on the street we’d punch him in the face in the name of men everywhere.
