CityBeat cover artist Feb. 11
I’ve always dug the designs of San Diego-based Jedidiah clothing and apparel. It wasn’t until recently that I realized the driving creative force behind the company is artist and illustrator Kelli Murray, head designer at Jedidiah.
The piece on this week’s cover, “Open Heart,” is a good representation of most of Murray’s artwork; it’s a little punk-rock, a little cutesy and feminine, highly illustrative and and undeniably cool.
“This piece is about putting down your guards and sharing your soul,” says Murray. “Forgetting what is on the outside and realizing that true beauty shines from within.”
Nicely said Miss Murray, who, by the way, was born during the Reagan administration (she’s young, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at her work or listening to her explanations behind her work).
See more of Murray’s work here and click below for a short bio and artist statement.
Bio
Born in 1984 and raised in San Diego, CA, Kelli was drawn towards a creative life at a very young age. Middle daughter of three, she was always the one found drawing, imagining, or creating in one form or another.
Kelli is now the head designer at Jedidiah clothing company. She draws upon her strong illustration and design skills and innate sense of style to produce a fashion line that speaks to the hearts of its devoted clientèle. Her work displays a distinctive hip and urban feel, with illustrative overlays of innocence and messages of hope.
Artist statement
Whether it is evoking emotion, inspiring change, or sparking some sort of thought or dream, i want to touch people with the art I create.

I get to work with Kelli on a daily basis and she is so creative. So happy that she made the cover – this was an awesome surprise when I picked up that week’s issue of City Beat!
