San Diego Shows–Wednesday, June 17

PLAN A: White Rabbits, The Subjects, Hotel St. George @ The Casbah–Arguably, one of the biggest buzz bands in the land, White Rabbits’ single “Percussion Gun” is exactly what it’s title implies. A skeet blast of syncopation to the face! Watch out! Oh, and check out Nathan Dinsdale’s piece that we ran last week. PLAN B: Estilo Night @ The Office–You’ll need a local to find the best club nights in Tijuana, so just head to North Park for this new Wednesday night. DJs Mike$ki and Cros 1 will spin the best in Latin hip-hop and remixed classics while, in best TJ fashion, buckets of beer, tequila poppers and TJ dogs are on special. PLAN C: Saffire Uppity Blues Women @ Anthology–These three over-the-hill-and-into-the-woods ladies from Fredericksburg, Virginia can really bring the heat and have been for over 25 years. That is, until now. This is their last tour. BACKUP PLAN: Bret Michaels @ San Diego County Fair–Hopefully, his nose cast will not affect his ability to make out with every skank at the fair.
Quick Picks (in order of humpdaytasticness):
Bright Light Fever, By Sunlight, Modern Rifles, Black Mamba–Interesting lineup. Both Black Mamba and Modern Rifles are great, but Bright Light Fever sound like they should be playing the SOMA sidestage or Dream Street as oppposed to the Che. However, Seattle’s By Sunlight make some sweet, if not completely by-the-numbers indie-pop. Interested to see what they do.
Buckfast Superbee, State to State, The Gift/Curse @ Soda Bar
Furcast, One I Red @ Beauty Bar
Owl, Murder My Sweet @ U-31
