Morrissey @ Copley Symphony Hall

So, apparently, the last two times Morrissey performed in San Diego, the shows weren’t so hot. Not sure what happened—I wasn’t at either (can anyone out there fill me in?). The show Tuesday night at Copley Symphony Hall was solid. Yes, solid. Only one person managed to get on stage and security bordered on oppressive (no dancing in the aisles, ya’ll; stay in your assigned seats). I’m not crazy about his new stuff, either. But, at the end of the day, I’m a fan and it was pretty cool to be able to photograph the show.

hey man,nice shots!
I was there to network my law firm to Moz (I’m a local animal attorney.) I tossed a Christmas card to him with my business card inside as he got into his car (exiting the venue.) Moz better not lose that card! The show was good too. People (not me) got more excited for Smiths songs (w/ the exception of maybe “Death @ One’s Elbow.”) The girl in front of me serenaded her boyfriend to “Ask” (hey man, put your hair down if you’re going to be blocking someone’s view w/ a big ‘fro.)
The last time he played in 2007, on San Diego Bay, he brought an epic setlist, but struggled with the sound and somewhat boring crowd. He walked off during How Soon Is Now and didn’t come back. The crowd expected about 3 more songs, based on previous shows. He was booed for the first time ever in San Diego. Prior to that, he chose to open for The Jaguares for his San Diego show.
Really nice shots, Kelly!
