San Diego Shows–Tuesday, Jan. 12
PLAN A: Minipax, Carney, Stripes and Lines @ The Casbah. I’m not sure who the four prodigies are who named their band after what sounds like a more travel-friendly tampon, but I can’t wait to see their lovely lo-fi electro-pop performed live. PLAN B: Geezer @ Porter’s Pub at UCSD. Weezer cancelled their show at Rimac Arena because Rivers Cuomo is sick with a severe case of IKeepMakingTheSameSongOverAndOveritis (or he got hurt in a tour bus accident, I can’t remember which). But Geezer is a hilarious cover band where the members are dressed like seniors and stick to the schtick the whole way through. BACKUP PLAN: Junior Brown @ Belly Up.
OTHER COOL STUFF:
“Dime Stories” @ The Loft at UCSD. Read your story in under 3 minutes and then the audience judges you on story quality, performance and how well you stuck to the themes of “teeth” and “misunderstanding.” See website for details. You can check out the feature we did last year on this cool event here.
Phil Wiggins and Corey Harris @ Anthology.
PanAm, Jon Ji, Machete @ Tin Can Ale House.
Zimbeat, Red Pony Clock, Nana Grizol @ Soda Bar.
Caskets on Parade, Tore Black, Mass Terror & Massakro @ Radio Room.
