San Diego Shows, Monday, April 5
PLAN A: RJD2, Busdriver, Happy Chichester @ The Casbah. Philly-based beat maestro RJD2 pretty much has a monopoly on instrumental hip-hop and his new album, The Colossus, lives up to its name. Big, phat, electro-tinged beats that make it abundantly clear why this guy has his own remix phone app. PLAN B: Death on Mars, Pony Village, Perfect Blue @ Soda Bar. Toeing the line between moppy indie-rock and shoegazey pop, locals Death on Mars are for any music fan who’s gotten drunk by herself while surrounded by Lou Reed and Echo and the Bunnymen LPs. Same can be said for Portland openers Pony Village. BACKUP PLAN: Primitive Noyes, Mouse Fire, Manta Rae @ Tin Can Ale House.
OTHER COOL STUFF:
The Styletones @ Bar Pink.
Lady Dottie and The Diamonds @ U-31.
Blackout Party @ Riviera Supper Club.
Louie Culture, DJ Megga (Culture Blend Sound System), Romain Virgo, DJ Carlos Culture @ Belly Up.
