San Diego County Fair 2010
The 2010 San Diego County Fair opens Friday, June 11, with a “Taste the Fun” theme that will attempt to celebrate, “not only the fair food that many people love, but also food in many other forms.”
The main, theme-based attraction will be “Tour of Tastes,” an exhibition featuring cooking competitions, cooking demonstrations and even a behind-the-scenes look at how fair food is made.
But while the schedule of food-related happenings is pretty darn awesome, the star of the show has always and will always be the deep-fried food purveyors lining the fair’s thoroughfares. Sadly, local-food cook-offs will just never be as popular as food on a stick.
The new deep-fried creations that will likely get the most attention this year will be be the chocolate-covered bacon, deep-fried butter and deep-fried Klondike Bars, two of which can be found at the so-called Heart Attack Cafe, a neon-colored food stand you’ll see in the slide-show above. Big thanks to the Freddy Krueger look-alike and the rest of the folks who sampled all the fair food and let me snap their pictures.
WARNING: The disgusted face Freddy is making in one of the photos was taken a second after he took a bite of the deep-fried garlic butter from Heart Attack Cafe. Try it at your own risk.

#1-Today is the 7th. The fair opens on Friday the 11th.
#2-I plan on sneaking in a Double Down sandwich from KFC to help wash down the deep fried butter I’m going to try. I’m a city boy born and raised in Chicago who also spent many moons in Wisconsin. I LOVE my butter!
Scratch that first one. I missed where you said the fair opens on the 11th. I thought this blog came out today. Sorry.
