While the San Diego art world is concentrating on the upcoming San Diego Art Contemporary Art Fair, Alexander Salazar is busy organizing a little alternative art fair of his own (more on that in next week’s CityBeat).
Just when you thought you had all the San Diego galleries mentally mapped in your head, four new galleries open their doors.
In June, Re-Gallery, a Solana Beach art and design studio focusing on objects made from recycled or reclaimed materials, celebrated their opening. The owners are currently looking for submissions.
“Do you know someone creative?” the gallery asks in a Facebook post. “I’m looking for artists that make art out of recycled materials…Jewelry/sculptures/wall hangings/etc.”
The new gallery also provides classes for artists with developmental disabilities.
After I meet with Ryan Jeffries tomorrow, I’ll know a lot more about another new gallery in town, Jeffries Projects, located at 1237 Prospect St., Ste. U/V in La Jolla. The space opened in July with a show called Brave Man featuring works by Alexander Jarman and Jesse Mockrin.
From 8 p.m. to midnight this Friday, Aug. 13, the artistic duo of Chris Clements and Dustin Liedl will be opening the doors to the Machine Shop Gallery, a new workshop and urban-art space in Eat Village. The opening will feature art in different mediums and music by San Diego band Joy and DJ Slowhand.
